Second Assignment

Tribal children suffer from hunger, illness

Four children of the Orang Rimba have received medical treatment in Batanghari regency Jambi that are in need of food, water and medicine. Cipak (1) and Merute (12) from a tribal group led by Mangku Terap, who live in Bukit Dua Belas National Park (TNBD), have been admitted to a pediatric ward's isolation room in the state-owned hospital in Muarabulian city since Saturday and the other children, Besikap, 4, and Sebilau, 3, have been treated as outpatient. Before being admitted to the hospital the children had been suffering from high fever for seven days. Furthermore, there are seven more children that lived in the forest had also been suffering from the same decease. Beby Andihara, the doctor, said that those diseases were caused by malnutrition and bad sanitation. He added if the patients did not improve in the next few days, they would be referred to hospital in Jambi city and they would be exempted from medical expenses, as the Batanghari regency would cover it. The Warsi Indonesian Conservation Community (KKI Warsi) unit coordinator Kristiawan said that eleven Orang Rimba had died over the past two months. He hoped that the government would proactively provide health, food aid and medical treatments to the ill children. The Jambi provincial Social Manpower and Transmigration Agency’s Suku anak Dalam had started investigating the deaths of the Orang Rimba caused by starvation. KKI Warsi reported that the tribe had been malnourished since they could not hunt for prey because the forest was damaged while their tradition did not allowed them to eat meat except what they hunted themselves. KKI Warsi recorded that around 3850 Orang Rimba traveled long distances for food and clean water without being able to feed themselves properly. They hoped that the government would pay attention to them and called for a stop to forest destruction.

Executives took part in misuse: Ahok
Dewanti A. Wardhani, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Headlines | Wed, March 04 2015, 6:40 AM

Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has acknowledged that several of his subordinates in the Jakarta administration have long been involved in the misuse of the city budget.

Speaking to reporters at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, Ahok said that he knew city councilors were not the only perpetrators behind irregularities in the city budget. Agency heads and staffers within the city administration, he said, also took part.

“In 2014, I found many irregularities in the city budget. For example, there were allocations for things that were never brought up during meetings, for example in the Education Agency. So what did I do? I demoted the agency’s head and replaced him with Pak Lasro Marbun,” Ahok said.

At the time, Taufik Yudi Mulyanto was head of the Education Agency. Taufik was moved to the Governor’s Team for Development Supervision (TGUPP) early in 2014 and replaced by Lasro Marbun, now head of the Jakarta Inspectorate, who had “saved” more than Rp 1 trillion (US$76.9 million) not long after his inauguration as Education Agency head.

“[Taufik] was one of the big ‘players’ in the [education] agency. Pak Lasro had saved trillions in dubious allocations, which is one of the reasons why last year we had the largest unused budget,” Ahok said.

Last year’s unused budget was Rp 6.47 trillion from the total budget of Rp 72.8 quintillion.

Taufik could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

“I also demoted [I Dewa Gede] Sony, who headed the ULP [Goods and Services Procurement Agency]. He was promoted last October and I demoted him in January because I knew he was involved. We’re still looking for other people who were or are involved; if they are officials, they will be demoted; if they are staffers, they will not receive allowances,” he said.

Last week, Ahok revealed that in the 2014 city budget, there was more than Rp 280 billion allocated to procure uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for computers in 49 senior high schools in West and Central Jakarta.

Lasro, on the other hand, acknowledged that he had missed the dubious allocations, and said that the allocations were made by sub-agencies in municipalities, which have different budget documents from the central agency, but denied that he was involved.

“Agency heads do not supervise allocations made in sub-agencies because we have different documents,” Lasro told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday at City Hall.

Despite orders from the parties’ central board to cancel their votes, the NasDem Party and United Development Party (PPP) factions have yet to retract their right of inquiry. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the National Awakening Party (PKB) factions also still seems firm with their decision, despite rumors of backtracking.

The City Council has hired its own lawyer, Razman Arif, who previously represented Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan in his graft case and former Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono in the faulty Transjakarta bus procurement case. Udar is among former Jakarta agency heads who have been named suspects in procurement cases, along with former Sanitation Agency head Eko Bharuna, who was named a suspect in a portable toilet procurement case.

On Tuesday, dozens of residents went to City Hall to voice their support for Ahok and urged that he “keep fighting for the people”. Ahok took the opportunity to apologize to Jakartans for causing trouble with his feud with the City Council.

“I apologize to the people of Jakarta for this dispute. I assure you that all of our services will not be disturbed. But please know that this is not about Ahok versus the City Council; this is about fighting for transparency,” Ahok said.

Based on my opinion this news is accurate. It provides the proof from the source persons that had been gained by the reporters. It is also balanced, fair and objective because the writer here does not support certain side and it is according to current fact that happen right now. It is also clear and concise without reducing the important information.

An Inspirational Value of
“Semangat Hidup Seorang Tuna Wicara”
“Semangat Hidup Seorang Tunawicara” is very interesting and make us so surprised. It gives us an inspirational value of life to be strong even though we have disability. This video was created by Aprilia Nur Andini. The genre of this video is a documentary video, which tells us about a strong figure of deaf person’s life. Comparing to another documentary video, this video has a good description of the figure with a very detail explanation and trusted sources.
This video represents the real life of a dump collector. In this video, we can see many difficulties faced by Tarko and how he accepts his condition sincerely. Every day, he goes to work in the early morning until the sun sets. He is responsible for his beloved wife and daughter. Even though many people insult him, he still try to do his best for his life and family. We can also see in the video other person’s comment about him. She said that sometimes, Tarko was funny and annoying because he did not always hear what people said to him. On the other hand, he was a hard worker and responsible person.
As a descriptive perspective, we can see how Aprilia created this video with a very minimalized but clear message giving. She gave the story in an appropriate setting when all of the video has set in TPS in Jakarta. This is the place where the source of this inspirational video work. Aprilia also took some sources of Tarko’s life from his friend or working pals. She also took some picture of Tarko’s deaf wife and normal daughter as a description for his family condition. The narration for the video are also quite clear to open people mind about how to be motivated from Tarko’s life with some classical music to make us easy to flow with the story.
This clear explanation from the video can give a good motivation to normal people to be more thankful of their normal condition. This video also can become a media for people to reflect on their own life. Therefore, people who watch this video can introspect themselves on what things they had got before. If this disable people can do something like what normal people can do, even better, why the normal people cannot do something same.

This video is really recommended for people who lost their motivation of life. The hope from watching this video is that many people could watch it because of the moral value inside of the video. It could be inspired by the figure of Tarko who fight for his life even if he had a disability to do his job , and it could make people aware not to make a disability as a barrier of people to do the best for their life.

Junk Food

Junk food is a kind of food that people usually eat which is prepared and served quickly. There are many kinds of junk food that we can find easily such as: hamburger, French fries, instant noodle, gorengan and so on. Nowadays, junk food becomes a popular food because it is very practical. We can find junk food everywhere such as on the edge of the road. Junk food has a cheap price because it is made of cheap ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, added sugar and fats. Busy people usually eat junk food to fulfill their need without thinking further about the nutrition and the effect. They just fill their body with such kind of junk foods.
Actually, many people consume junk food because they just think that junk food is more practical for their busy life. They also can find this kind of food everywhere. It is much easier to prepare junk food or order it from junk food restaurant than to prepare and cook food because junk food is more fast and simple. We can also get this kind of food with a cheap price. Besides that, people also think that junk food has a good taste.
However, junk food has a negative effect if consumed over. Many people believe that junk food can make a lack of nutrition that are needed by our body. It is also unhealthy because most of junk food always contains dangerous additive substrate that can disturb our health. The additive substrate such as MSG (monosodium glutamate) has known can effect serious illness like cancer and so on. No food is good for you if you do not balance your diet and eat a variety of food. Junk food also increases cholesterol and should be avoided if you suffer with high blood pressure of cholesterol problems.

Because of this pros and cons about junk food, the people should care about what they consume. Even if they consume junk food, they must know the save standardization to consume junk food and balance it by eating healthy food. Therefore, the negative effect of the junk food can be minimalized. It will be better for you if you choose to consume healthy food than junk food.

Dangerous Fake Meatball
Nowadays, a meatball becomes a favorite food for everyone because of its taste, which is very delicious. We can find meatball seller wherever we go because of the big profit we get if we sell it. It makes few people do cheating in making the meatball in order to get a big profit itself. They add some formalin and borax just for making the food looks beautiful. Although they know about the bad effects of substances, they still do it.
First, as we know that formalin is used for preserving a corpse. Imagine if we consume it, automatically, we have poisoned from that substance. From the research stated that formalin is one of carcinogen compounds that trigger the growth of cancer. Actually, the use of formalin is for preserving the dead body but they use it for preserving the meatball and to make it looks more beautiful.
Second, besides using formalin they also use borax, which is added in the meatball. Actually, the use of borax is for chemical material like anti-rust agent and material for dentures. If we consume a meatball that contains a borax, so it will be very dangerous for our health. It will cause many diseases for our body such as an inflammation of the digestive track and makes our tissue to be broken. They use borax just for making the meatball become elastic and more beautiful.

Both formalin and borax are not appropriate to be used in a food. Those substances are very dangerous for our body if we consume it. We have to be selective when we choose the healthy meatball to be consumed. The hygiene place is very important to be considered when we eat the meatball.
